Chapter 11
Logan and I headed out to see the Witches, not something I had ever expected to be doing. Of course, my life had been turned inside out since Logan dragged Drake into my basement so I probably should stop being surprised by anything at this point. I wasnât completely convinced that this was a good idea, but I had to admit, Logan hadnât lied to me yet. I may have to have a serious talk with my parents though, it seemed I was ridiculously unprepared to deal with other supernaturals.
âSo what do you think of Xan?â Logan asked as he drove.
I wasnât sure what he wanted me to say, but something told me I should play it cool. âI feel sorry for him. It canât be fun to be away from your coven, family, and friends. I hope we can help him. Maybe he can find another coven to take him in once we get his trouble cleared up.â
âYeah, heâs a nice guy.â I could tell there was something more Logan wanted to say, but he didnât, so we sat in silence.
We pulled up to a huge house near the waterfront. It was painted midnight blue with black trim and there was a massive garden wrapping around from the back yard to the side. I could see faces peering out windows all over the place and as soon as we stepped out of Loganâs truck, I could hear the music. Tom Petty was blasting from inside and more than a few shouts of laughter, or song lyrics, or who knows what, coming along with it. It sounded like a frat party from the eighties. I wondered what the neighbors thought, until I realized the house was spelled. I could sense it, a smooth wall barrier that must have kept nearly all the sound away from human ears. I wanted to change my mind, what else were they hiding with their magic, what could they hide even from another supernatural? I felt my heart rate increase and my breathing was erratic, I didnât want to go anywhere near that house.
Logan put his hand on the small of my back and pushed me forward. I liked the confusing feelings his touch evoked even less than the idea of entering that dwelling, so I hurried forward, breaking the contact. Before we got to the door it flung open and five Witches came pouring out, all of them dressed in short shorts and tank tops, black of course, and no concern for the slight chill in the air. They looked at Logan with excitement and anticipation, their eyes flew to me full of caution.
A few dared to giggle a Hi Logan, most just giggled. A woman pushed to the front holding a small infant, I knew right away this must be Tara. She hurried down the steps and across the yard. She looked extremely young, couldnât be more than twenty. She didnât even look at me, just ran to Logan and I think if she hadnât been clutching her baby, she would have thrown herself into his arms.
